"Oh, the heads that turn
Make my back burn
And those heads that turn
Make my back, make my back burn."

As a self-confessed attention whore, it's rare that gossip ever truly gets to me. I actually find it quite humorous and occasionally flattering when people talk about me, good or bad. However, there comes and time and place when the chatter is so mindless, the rumors so unwarranted and contextually warped, the overall response so ridiculous and hypocritical, that whispers behind fingers and voices behind closed doors become an irritating and unwanted nuisance.
~
"I'm sure in her you'll find
~
I've known for a long time that the only person who will genuinely always be there for me is myself. To borrow a quote from a favorite childhood book, Mara, Daughter of the Nile: "Look after yourself, girl. No one else will." Not so long ago, I used to place high value in the investment of trust and loyalty in certain people. My own child-like naivety and innocence prioritized their existence, their thoughts and opinions, their advice and desires for my future over my own. What a sad joke. To make a long story short, there comes a time when a person's true nature is revealed, and (despite well-meant initial intentions) the outcome is less than flattering. I still value my true friends. They are precious gems that should be treasured and never taken for granted and their absence would create a gaping void in my life.
All in all however, the place of safety, the only Sanctuary, is within myself.
Mwah! Mwah!

P.S. I am not going Goth, nor am I depressed! This was a hasty attempt at a 1960's Biba look.

Witchy Biba, for sure. But very glam.

And for the rumors, fuck em. (excuse my language) There are certainly more people you can count on in life than yourself, and sometimes yourself will lead you down the wrong road, but backstabbing bitches are never worth your time. You're gorgeous, and talented, so people are going to hate on you. Jealousy, baby.

Great pictures, very editorial looking! It is true sometimes that you need to look out for yourself...not everyone can be trusted. But there are usually a few people you can trust even when you don't think there are, like good friends. :)

I stand by that quote too; your strength and ability to see things so clearly is an inspiration.

Also, love the look, like all your other ones- what I love most about the way you dress is that you're like a chameleon continually reinventing yourself and exploring new things without caring much about what other people think.

haha i used to love Mara Daughter of the Nile!!! I Love your witchy goth look, doesn't mean you have to be depressed, It's great to have fun with fashion and try out some looks that are a bit more extreme. I have definently done similar dark looks and LOVE them!
And rumours are just dumb, I'm so glad you aren't listening to them and staying above it. Be yourself :)

Interesting what you wrote about. I was just having a virtual conversation with another Blogger about exactly the same issue. People will be people -- some are true friends, others just act like it.

Your photos are beautiful! Do you take them yourself?! Ha ha I'm the opposite of an attention whore, I really have to force myself to be 'out there'. I would prefer just to hide behind my blog but every now and then it's nice to make an appearance!

It looks goth. And rad.

I get it. I do have friends I absolutely trust but I tell people- I love you but know I will fail you. I won't mean to, but we all do. That's life.

And while I know my homies have my back, ultimately we are human and let our loved ones down. Including ourselves. I am grateful to have learned compassion so I can forgive.

You are lucky to have sanctuary, in yourself and in others.

Goth-tastic! I love this look on you, you look like a free-spirited Bohemian babe. The black lipstick is wonderful.
One of my man's rock and roll recollections from the early 1990s is being wasted in The Cult's Ian Astbury's swimming pool in LA letting his girlfriend cut his hair. x

So beautiful in all that gorgeous lace and I love the shoes and jewellery!! My outfits are my protection ... they either attract the sort of people from the young to the very old, OR they send people scuttling off. Yay! Everyone's a winner and so are you beautiful Hope xoxoxo

and P.S. it seems that we have encountered the same thing. I just have been learning that if you resist the urge to gossip back, your character outshines them and people want to be your friend above theirs. Good luck.
